Supply Drive for Sherman Indian High School

Supply Drive for Sherman Indian High School

Dates: Collecting through the end of July

Location: Harmony Toluca Lake

Sherman Indian High School in Riverside needs our assistance! SIHS is one of four boarding schools still under the Bureau of Indian Affairs (the Office of Indian Education). Unlike former boarding schools whose focus was assimilation by eliminating “The Indian,” this school offers a balanced program that seeks to assure a quality education to students from many tribes, along with cultural awareness and inclusion.

While students are often far away from home, SIHS staff (along with local support) seek to help students feel welcome; however, many of these students arrive on campus with very little. Support from tribal nations, individuals, and other organizations like Harmony – Toluca Lake is much needed.

During the month of July, the following items are being collected:

  • Art Supplies (such as graph and tracing paper, colored pencils, sketch paper, art markers, gel pens, paints)
  • Personal Supplies (such as large beach towels, XL twin comforters, reusable water bottles, personal hygiene items)
  • Snacks (such as cheese & crackers, peanut butter & crackers, peanut butter, ramen, granola bars, protein bars, boxes of individual chips or cookie packs, microwave popcorn)

Once all donations are collected by the end of July, Pastor Mark will arrange to take these items to the Native American United Methodist Church (in Anaheim) for SIHS. Thank you to all who are able to contribute to this important outreach effort!
